Embroidery Skills with Sashiko
Overview
This course is designed to get you started with traditional embroidery techniques and covers a variety of stitches and how to use them:
- Stem stitch
- Woven wheels
- Satin stitch
- Backstitch
- Blanket stitch
- Buttonhole stitch
- and more!
We will also explore the materials and equipment used to create beautiful embroidery designs.
This course also combines the learning of traditional embroidery stitches with the concept of sashiko decorative stitching, the traditional Japanese mending and decorative embroidery technique characterised by its distinctive geometric patterns and simple running stitches.
You'll also learn boro mending, the traditional Japanese mending technique focused on repairing and reinforcing textiles, characterised by its layered, patched aesthetic and use of visible stitching.
As part of this course you will have the opportunity to learn how to plan and execute your own embroidery project which will be unique to you.
Key information
There are no entry requirements for this course.
No previous experience required as all techniques are fully demonstrated from the outset.
Classes take place in our small, friendly sewing and design studio at the Llwyn y Bryn Campus, Uplands. With access to a range of sewing equipment, you’ll learn in a relaxed yet inspiring environment.
All materials will be provided initially to get you started, you will be expected to provide your own materials and equipment to product you own embroidery project
